Kiki’s Mom
Hi Everyone!
I’m Kiki’s Mom, Mava Heffler.. but you all can get to know me as “The Storyteller”!
I have a lifelong passion for the protection and advocacy of children and animals. Here and on our other social channels, my goal is to combine that passion to help children learn important lessons by reading and writing books of purpose through the eyes of animals, in particular Kiki, the wild bird I rescued!
In addition to Kiki, my home consists of a re-homed senior black Labrador, two cats, and weekly two additional family dogs (when dog sitting duties call).
I have extensive experience creating and leading purpose driven initiatives, having worked in partnership with Children’s Miracle Network, National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, numerous national and local health organizations, and more.
I have always been a believer that children learn best when they learn things through a unique lens that oftentimes animals provide…they can many times be the best teachers.
I’m excited and honored to be here with you bringing this vision to life!
Kiki
On a cold day in May, 2016, I was just a little baby bird only few hours old when I accidentally fell out of my nest — and onto Mava’s (The Storyteller’s) doorstep.
By miracle and chance she walked out her door as night approached and found me lying in the cold. I had no feathers or fluff, and my eyes hadn’t even opened yet. I was very scared.
I was very tiny and fragile, and wasn’t sure if I would make it. But I was a fighter and I knew Mava would fight for me, too!
Day by day I got bigger and stronger. My eyes opened, and there was Mava! I thought she was my mother and now she is! I’m so lucky!
Even though my life is a little different than other birds like me, I have lots of super special skills and am extra brave!
I know the sounds of dogs barking and cats meowing, the TV and cell phones, people talking, music playing, and lots more. This is my life and I love it!
I live with two cats and a big dog named Declan! I heard other birds are scared of cats and dogs, but not me!!
I even have many other animal friends that visit outside my window and two other doggie friends that come visit during the week!
Even though I’m little, Im an important part of the world. I have a special voice and use it to communicate with everyone and everything around me!
This is why I love reading books with all of you! I’m also currently working with my Mom to write my very own book series. Stay Tuned!

Kiki
Declan
Declan is the newest member of Kiki’s animal family and friends. And he is the biggest by far. In fact, he’s huge!
He is a re-homed, senior, huge black Labrador retriever. He is a gentle giant with a very loud bark. He loves Kiki and all animals, both inside and outside the house.
Ginger
Ginger is Kiki’s bestie. And she is a true diva kitty. She taught Kiki how to also be a diva, when Kiki was a little baby bird. Every morning Kiki‘s Mom takes Ginger into visit with Kiki, where they talk and exchange diva secrets. In fact, Kiki chatters loudly until her Mom brings Ginger in for her visit. Ginger also visits with Kiki throughout every day.
Snaps
Snaps is Ginger’s brother. Snaps is a cat that is always looking for trouble. Kiki also visits with Snaps every morning and throughout every day. Snaps and Declan love to roughhouse together all the time. Even though Declan weighs 90 pounds, and Snaps weighs only 10 pounds, Declan is so protective and gentle with him.
